Instructor Certification

The training towards a Simulator Flight Instructor (SFI) or Type Rating Instructor (TRI) certification is composed of two major parts; theoretical instruction and practical training in the simulator.

Teaching and Learning Course

The Teaching and Learning Course, formerly known as a Core Course, is the first stage towards gaining an instructor rating under EASA regulations.

TrainingAir has specifically tailored this course to be relevant for Simulator Flight Instructor (SFI) or Type Rating Instructor (TRI) candidates aiming to teach in a multi-crew environment. The course, taught by experienced instructors with both theoretical and practical knowledge gained through many years of training in classroom, simulators and aircraft, focuses on the following elements:

  • The teaching and learning process
  • Training philosophy
  • Planning of training exercises
  • Trainee evaluation and grading
  • The instruction of Crew Resource Management and Threat Error Management
  • Briefing workshops

The course delivers 32 hours of instruction over 4 days.

Practical Training

The further practical training phases are delivered in the simulator by experienced Type Rating Instructors and Examiners who have held senior training posts with major airlines.

The Training is divided into three phases:

  • Technical training & FFS introduction
  • Full flight simulator instruction training
  • Competence Assessment

The number of sessions required and course duration will depend on the type of rating being trained for.

We offer regular Type Rating Instructor & Simulator Flight Instructor courses at the following simulators:
